Dr. Hochard’s primary research areas are in environmental and natural resource economics and development economics.  His work, highly interdisciplinary in nature, combines geospatial analysis, mathematical modeling and empirical analysis to examine feedback between natural and human systems.  His recent areas of interest include (i) using ecology and economics for management of ecosystem services,  (ii) natural  capital accounting and valuation,  (iii) issues of equality in public good provision, (iv) relating poverty with land degradation and public infrastructural investment, (v) examining the health impacts of water pollution and (vi) storm protection services of mangroves and barrier islands.
