The Coastal Studies Institute (CSI) is seeking community volunteers for the Roanoke Island Trails Program (RITP) starting with a kick-off meeting at CSI on January 15 at 5 pm. This program, which is being undertaken in partnership with AmeriCorps Conservation Trust for North Carolina, is a community-led initiative focused on engaging residents and visitors with the outdoors via a system of biking trails and walking paths on Roanoke Island. Educational signage and plaques will highlight the unique identities of each community and provide information on various cultural, historical, and ecological features of the island.
CSI is seeking volunteers to build a motivated and diverse group that will breathe life into this project from Wanchese to Manteo. Volunteers will have the opportunity to assist with all aspects and stages of trail development including planning and developing routes, writing educational content, designing maps, conducting trail maintenance, and more.
Interested volunteers should attend the project kick-off meeting at the Coastal Studies Institute on Tuesday, January 15th at 5 p.m. (850 NC 345, Wanchese, NC.) If you are unable to attend but interested in volunteering, please contact Erin by calling (252)475-5409 or emailing RoanokeIslandTrails@gmail.com.
