Summester at the Coast

beachaerialwideNorth Carolina’s northeastern coast is a complex and dynamic system, with an intriguing maritime history, a thriving tourism industry, and an enjoyable, laid-back community.

The Summester at the Coast is a month-long undergraduate education program to study this area, hosted at the UNC Coastal Studies Institute on Roanoke Island.  The program enables students to live and learn on the Outer Banks, taking coastal-focused classes for university credit.

Courses: Lecture and lab classes will be taught in the waterfront and state-of-the-art UNC Coastal Studies Institute, part of the University of North Carolina system.  Students have several course options, designed for undergraduates with any background.  Group activities and a variety of land- and sea-based field trips are planned to enhance the educational experience.

Housing: Students will live in clean, comfortable, rooms in a residential facility in historic Manteo, NC, near ocean beaches and the site of the first English settlement in the New World.

Faculty and Credit: Courses will be instructed by faculty from UNC system schools and enhanced with field trips and input from local experts.  Academic credit will be provided through East Carolina University.GHOSTcrab
